Buy, sell or stay: Baltimore Orioles

Today's entry in the "Buy, sell or stay" series is the Baltimore Orioles, who already bought in by trading for Chicago Cubs pitcher Scott Feldman last week. Let's see if they have more work to do.

Strength: The long ball. No team has hit more home runs than the Baltimore Orioles (120 and counting). A lot of that has to do with first baseman Chris Davis, who has already matched last year's personal total of 33 homers, but they also have Adam Jones (16), J.J. Hardy (15) and Matt Wieters (11) cranking them out. Of course, home runs can only take you so far in baseball. You still need other elements to be successful.

Weakness: Pitching. Although Baltimore is getting better outings from its starters, its bullpen is having late-game issues with Tommy Hunter and Jim Johnson each giving up walk-off hits in the past week. I know Johnson has 30 saves this season, but there has to be a better option out there than a guy who's ERA is sitting at 3.92.

Buy, sell or stay the course? If you can smell the playoffs (which Baltimore is), you need to do everything in your power to get there. Therefore, the Orioles need to deal for a true shut-down closer -- someone who won't even allow a runner to reach base, let alone score. Johnson isn't that type of closer this year. In fact, outside of last year's 51-save performance, Johnson has never been that type of closer. Baltimore can and should do better.
