What we learned in Game 3

Some quick thoughts from Boston's 2-0 victory over Chicago in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals:

  • More Paille for everyone. Daniel Paille scored the final goal of Game 2 and the first goal of Game 3, which doubled his playoff total to four. Not bad for a guy who only had 10 goals and seven assists during the regular season.
  • Tuukka Tuukka Tuukka. Monday's shutout was Rask's third in his last seven games, and they've come against two of the best offenses in the NHL -- Pittsburgh and Chicago. Speaking of which ...
  • There is something wrong with Chicago. The Blackhawks had a difficult time sustaining any kind of attack against Boston's defense for the second consecutive game, and they still can't get their power play going (0-for-19 since Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals). This can't all be pinned on losing Marian Hossa tonight to a pregame injury, either. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have yet to score a goal, and if they're not scoring, Chicago is in big trouble.
  • Face-off domination. Boston won 40 out of the 56 face-offs in Game 3. Let me repeat that stat: Boston won 40 out of the 56 face-offs in Game 3. Another thing Chicago needs to fix.
This series is still far from over. Remember, Chicago lost three consecutive games to Detroit in the Western Conference semifinals, and the Blackhawks were the ones who advanced. They can get this turned around, but they'd better find a way to get through Boston's puck-swarming defense soon.

As for the Bruins, they are looking good in their attempt to win Lord Stanley's cup for the second time in three seasons.
