Floods strike Calgary

Heavy rain in Alberta over the past several days has led to severe flooding in the Canadian province, including downtown Calgary. Among the many building damaged by the flooding of the Bow and Elbow rivers is the Rogers Saddledome, which is home to the Calgary Flames. Here is a glimpse inside the building before the flood waters began to recede:

It might be difficult to tell, but the water is only a few rows away from the upper seating bowl inside the arena, which also was a venue at the 1988 Winter Olympics.

The Saddledome isn't the only building damaged by the flood waters. Most of downtown Calgary was swamped Saturday, and the threat is far from over as the rivers rise to the south of town. Evacuation orders were placed on approximately 10,000 Medicine Hat residents, according to the BBC. You can read the BBC's story on the floods here.

Hopefully, Calgary dries out soon and the city can begin the process of cleaning up from some of its worst flooding in recent history.
