Road Sweet Road

There are three Major League Baseball teams that have better road records than home records -- the Baltimore Orioles (9-12 home vs. 14-9 road), the Boston Red Sox (13-10 vs. 14-8) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (12-11 vs. 14-8).

I was especially curious about the Diamondbacks, who currently lead the National League West heading into  their second game of their road series at Colorado. Here is what I found:
Team batting average: .252 home, .260 road
Team slugging percentage: .392 home, .423 road
Team home runs: 19 home, 26 road
Team earned run average: 3.58 home, 2.99 road

The Orioles' home stats and road stats are stunning, too:

Team batting average: .258 home, .273 road
Team slugging percentage: .422 home, .451 road
Team home runs: 22 home, 31 road
Team RBI: 96 home, 112 road
Team earned run average: 4.90 home, 3.81 road

That last stat makes sense when you realize Baltimore's home ballpark is a power hitter's paradise -- but it's also interesting in that the Orioles don't take advantage of that fact. I guess that's why they're below .500 at home.

How long these stats hold up is anyone's guess, but it's just one of those quirky details that makes watching baseball interesting.
